Students in Great Falls, Virginia, may be attending class in one of the community’s older civic structures—Great Falls Elementary School dates to 1956—but it doesn’t seem that way after a comprehensive $12.9 million modernization. The modernized 85,697 SF school includes more than 20,000 SF of new space and a complete renovation of all existing spaces. The school also features a new media center, cafeteria, art room, additional classrooms, and all new systems and finishes.
“We have a beautiful new building,” GFES Principal Ernest Leighty said in a recent Great Falls Connection article. Both Leighty and Assistant Principal Barbara DeHart point out that large windows make the new library a “bright and a cheerful place” and the new art room will support a variety of projects—a big improvement over the cart-based lessons taught in the past.
