USNA – Dahlgren Hall
Annapolis, MD
Samaha provided a study for design and engineering services for the renovation and historic preservation of Dahlgren Hall (Building 103) at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. During analysis of the building’s envelope, failing sealant, mortar, and neoprene joints in the granite façade were evaluated, and specific repairs were recommended for each condition. By investigating existing building documents and physical conditions, conferencing with facility personnel, and proposing options with associated costs for individual work items, this concept study addressed the design and engineering services necessary to provide repairs to Dahlgren Hall. Dahlgren Hall is a midshipmen’s dining recreation facility and also serves as an exhibition space for military models of ships and airplanes, including a full size propeller plane on loan from the National Air and Space Museum.
